Hardiness zones are geographical areas in which certain categories of plant life can flourish according to climate conditions, including their ability to withstand minimum temperatures in that zone. For instance, “resistant to zone 10” indicates that such plant can withstand minimum temperatures as low as -1degC (30 F), while for more hardy species “resistant to zone 9” requires minimum temperatures as low as -7deg C – an initial development by USDA but since adopted globally.
